All-Hazards & Basic Wildland Fire Safety Awareness

AUDIENCE: Anyone who lives, works, or engages in recreation in the Wildland Urban Interface, Community volunteers, Animal Disaster Volunteers, hunters, guides. campers, and anyone who wants to be safer in an emergency.

The crucial subjects covered in this course include identifying hazards, assessing risks, and utilizing tools to recognize potential hazards during emergencies such as wildfires, floods/landslides, earthquakes, and other disasters. In addition, it will address wildfire and structural fire safety, such as avoiding entrapment, understanding fire behavior, general wildfire safety measures, current concerns, and preparing your home for fire safety

Scholarships are available through Halter Project. Please email rescue@halterproject.org to process your request.

All students will receive a ResQFAST certificate upon completion.

Instructor Bio: With more than 25 years of experience working in combination career fire departments in Northern California, Gary Johnson is a seasoned professional in his field. He possesses an Associate's Degree in Fire Science and has obtained various qualifications, such as California State Fire Training Fire Officer, Chief Officer, Fire Investigator, and registered CA State instructor. Gary has worked in different roles throughout his career, including as a Firefighter, Engineer, and Emergency Command Center dispatcher for CalFire. He is also a Paramedic with over 20 years of experience and currently serves as Fire Captain at a career fire department in Northern California. In addition, he is recognized as the founder of the first career fire-based Animal Technical Rescue Teams in Northern California.
